A skylight is a roof opening, so the roof detail matters first.
A well-installed skylight can change a room. A rushed skylight can become a leak point for years. The difference is planning the placement, opening, curb or deck-mounted detail, underlayment, and flashing before cutting into the roof.
In Woodstock, tree shade and roof orientation matter. A skylight on one slope may bring soft light all day, while another slope may bring heat or direct glare at the wrong time.
When to install a skylight
Roof replacement is the cleanest time to add or replace skylights because the surrounding shingles and underlayment are already being opened. A separate install can still work when the roof is in good condition and the correct flashing kit is used.
What we plan before cutting
We review roof pitch, rafter spacing, attic obstructions, ceiling shape, shaft requirements, interior finish needs, and drainage around the opening. Those details decide how clean the finished skylight looks and how well it sheds water.
