Ridge vent is only half of attic ventilation.
A ridge vent lets hot, humid attic air escape at the top of the roof. It needs lower intake air to work. Without intake, the vent cannot move enough air and may pull from unintended places.
In Woodstock, attic heat and humidity can shorten roof life when ventilation is poor. Correcting ventilation during roof replacement is often the cleanest option.
When ridge vent makes sense
Ridge vent works best on roofs with enough ridge length and adequate soffit intake. It is often installed during replacement because the ridge cap is already being removed.
Ventilation mistakes
Common mistakes include adding ridge vent without intake, leaving old box vents open with new ridge vent, cutting the ridge slot incorrectly, or using ridge cap that does not match the system.
