Siding Installation in Marietta, GA
Siding is the single biggest visual change you can make to a home. It's also the second-most important weatherproofing system after the roof. Done right, modern siding lasts 30 to 50 years, looks better than the day it went up for most of that span, and doesn't move on the wall. Done wrong, it leaks behind, traps moisture against the sheathing, and rots the wall structure inside the wall cavity.
We install fiber cement (James Hardie), engineered wood (LP SmartSide), and premium vinyl across Marietta, GA and Cobb County. Full residing projects, additions, and partial wall replacements.
The Three Siding Materials We Install
James Hardie fiber cement
The premium choice. Fiber cement is sand, cement, and cellulose fiber pressed into board. Looks like wood, weighs more, lasts longer, doesn't burn, doesn't rot, doesn't get eaten by anything. Holds factory ColorPlus paint for 15+ years before any maintenance painting. 30-year limited warranty on the material, 15-year warranty on the factory finish. Most expensive of the three but typically the lowest cost-per-year over the life of the siding.
LP SmartSide engineered wood
Wood fiber and resin pressed into board, treated for moisture and termite resistance. Lighter than Hardie, easier to handle, faster install. Looks more like real wood than fiber cement. Excellent for shake and lap profiles. 50-year limited warranty when installed to spec.
Premium vinyl
The economy choice. .044 to .055 thickness vinyl with foam-back insulation options. Modern vinyl is much better than the cheap product that gave vinyl a bad reputation in the 90s. Lifetime warranty against fading, cracking, and warping for premium grades. Doesn't hold paint, so the color you pick is the color you keep.
What's Actually Involved in a Siding Install
Tear-off down to the sheathing
We remove old siding, trim, and any damaged WRB (weather-resistive barrier). Inspect sheathing for soft spots, water damage, or rot. Anything bad gets replaced before the new siding goes back on.
New WRB and proper flashing
We install Tyvek or comparable house wrap, lapped properly, taped at all seams. Window and door openings get pan flashing, side flashing, and head flashing per manufacturer spec. This is the layer that keeps water out if siding ever fails.
Furring strips for rainscreen (Hardie and LP)
On premium installs, we add furring strips between WRB and siding to create a rainscreen gap. Air circulates behind the siding, drying out any moisture that gets behind. Roughly doubles the practical service life of the siding.
Trim, corners, and J-channel
Pre-painted trim around windows, doors, and corners. Proper J-channel at terminations. The trim work is what separates a good install from a hacky one visually.
Caulking and final paint touch-up
Manufacturer-spec caulking at all trim-to-siding joints. Touch-up painting where caulk is exposed.
What Siding Installation Costs in Cobb County
Hardie ColorPlus runs $11 to $16 per square foot installed for full re-side. LP SmartSide runs $9 to $13 per square foot. Premium vinyl runs $5 to $9 per square foot. Add-ons (rainscreen furring, premium trim packages, sheathing replacement) are line items on top of base pricing. Most full re-sides on a Cobb County single-family home land in the $20,000 to $55,000 range depending on size, material, and complexity.
Color and Style Selection
Hardie has 22 ColorPlus standards plus the option of primed-and-paint-yourself in any color. LP comes pre-primed for any field-applied paint. Vinyl is factory color only. We bring physical samples to every walk-through so you can hold the actual product against your home before deciding.
